Editor's Notes

Toucan is authored by Simon Constantine, the nose behind many of Lush’s most legendary fragrances (Breath of God, Lord of Misrule, Rose Jam …). It is natural, then, to smell a bit of Lush in Toucan - a melange of sweet citrus fruits, dashes of spices with their sweet-heat (clove, tonka bean), and soapy bubbly cleanliness. Toucan is a fruity floral amber that leans into Lush, but also leans into Zoologist. Victor Wong tells that he wanted to design a papaya fragrance with Simon, only to learn - much to his chagrin - that Simon disliked the smell of papaya. Working around this roadblock, Victor was inspired by a tropical fruit cocktail, consisting of mixed fruit in citrusy syrup. And that is the key idea that defines Toucan: orange and lime, papaya and coconut. Sherbet, sunshine, sizzle.

Toucan surprises when you view it from another angle: it is a faithful floral amber, riffing on a classic ‘mellis’ accord of piquant orange flower, clove heat, and tonka sweetness, grounded with sandalwood and benzoin. Geranium brings green back into the picture, and ylang-ylang reiterates the tropical. Jasmine, finally, ties everything together. Victor mentions a pomander - an orange studded with cloves - which gives this modern and quirky scent and quietly retro feeling; a soft resinous powder.

Toucan is the result of two quirky minds who understand perfume from many dimensions, choosing to see this one every-so-slightly sideways.
