Tangy and bitter yuzu citrus opens this fragrance, its ascendent sharpness uniting with an overdose of incense materials – including the bright, astringent, and citric shape of myrrh alongside a vast coating of purifying and clean olibanum. Macaque (Yuzu) is finely textured and brilliant, faint intersections of citrus and resin cross over a forest of trees, which impart structure and gravity to such an atmospheric scent. It celebrates hinoki wood, a Japanese cypress tree with innately green and citrusy facets – instilling a sense of stillness. This is bolstered with juniper berry, sandalwood, and oakmoss, deepening the arboreal connotations as they furnish this forest of evergreens.
