Zoologist Bee Extrait de Parfum

Regular price $47100 NZD
Size

The spring day seems still and peaceful. Yet beneath the wildly splattered canvas of a blossom-strewn meadow, thousands engage in a desperate race for survival. Worker bees toil at a frantic pace, ferrying a precious cargo of nectar and pollen to deposit it within cramped honeycomb cells, where it will nurture drones and larvae under the eye of a regal queen. In the claustrophobic hive, a deafening buzz offers evidence of the bees' devotion to duty, not a single worker pausing to question its role in perpetual grind of life in the queendom. Like the frantic hustle of the bee through a maze of multi-faceted scents, Zoologist Bee delivers a surreal experience. The rich aroma of honey captivates, while alluring florals, royal jelly, animalic beeswax and regal incense unite to create a buzz, offering excitement, and the sweet rewards of life.

Hyperrealistic honey with broom, heliotrope, and orange flower — the bee's entire world.

Editor's Notes

Imagine the bee, who dives into flowers and bathes in intoxicating pollen, concentrating this nectareous essence to make a bounty of honey. Unmistakable, its aroma is inseparable from its sticky sensation and sweet taste, which is nuanced across the range of fruit, floral, and spicy-resinous tones. This makes honey the perfect fantasy note in perfume, able to be explored in innumerable facets. Zoologist’s Bee is an homage to this material, but also a realistic dedication to the animal itself. Achieved with beeswax absolute, honey is a nuance as much as it is a note, which makes it an ingredient rich with affinities.

Bee is an atmospheric fragrance that begins with a meticulously constructed fantasy accord of honey, beeswax, and royal jelly. Bee perfects the aroma of honey, working this feature vertically through the composition as it radiates more than just sweetness, but also smoky, musky, animalic, floral, and waxy notes in perfect harmony. With this, perfumer Cristiano Canali extends an olfactory line through orange citrus fruit for sweetness and a ginger syrup accord for fizz and spice, lavishly gilded with flowers that already ooze a heady, honey sweet aroma, which includes broom, mimosa, orange flower, all dusted in pollen. Finally, a woody-resinous contrast of sandalwood, a classic amber accord of vanilla-benzoin, and labdanum in the base offer steady horizontal lines of creaminess, leathery phenolic smoke, and sunny warmth.

Sweet incense

It smells like sweet honey carried by incense. It's musty and the smell stays on your skin for days and even longer on clothes. Exactly what I was looking for!

Bees are buzzing

Smells like pure honey from a beehive. Like a real deep honey smell. It is lovely

Great scent for about six hours, but expected a richer, heavier honey vibe. It just didn’t pack that oomph or linger as you’d hoped—especially for the price. But hey, still a nice scent overall!

bee holds still and glows

genuinely lovely. and genuinely superseded.
the opening is angel and sweet and honey and a meadow, almost medicinal in a nice way. lip balm. waxy. a tiny bit of spice from the ginger sitting in the background. there's that slightly phenolic edge from the royal jelly accord that gives it a faintly pharmaceutical quality, which i actually like, it stops the sweetness from being only sweetness and puts a small strangeness into the middle of the flower.
photorealistic is the word that kept coming to mind. it smells like a hive in sun. warm wax, clover, something golden and slightly medicinal, a whole small ecosystem on the wrist. as a honey fragrance on its own terms it's excellent and i can see exactly why it's the house's most popular thing. for someone who wants a dedicated honey perfume this is probably the answer.
but "might get too much" is what i wrote in the moment and that's the structural problem. bee is linear. it opens honey, it stays honey, it ends honey. the beeswax and royal jelly and the benzoin-labdanum base are all reinforcing the same note family instead of evolving away from it. i want a perfume that moves. bee holds still and glows, and that's a legitimate thing for a fragrance to do, it's just not quite my thing.
then there's the slowdive problem. it's in the same honey-beeswax territory but with real topographic complexity, tobacco blossom and creamy tuberose and a resin base giving it evolution and a slight danger. in direct comparison bee is the prettier, tamer sibling. the kind of comparison that isn't really fair, because bee wasn't trying to be slowdive, but in my archive they're competing for the same shelf and slowdive wins unambiguously. if i didn't own slowdive this might be different. i do, so it isn't.

Honey meets the stove...

A delicious gourmand comprising honey, beeswax and citrus.
Imagine you're cooking up a new recipe and it calls for a tablespoon of honey. As you bring the spoon to the pot a drop falls on the hotplate. The rising plume fills your senses. You can't hold back your smile, remembering what a truly gorgeous substance honey is.
One of the best from this niche house. It's sweet but never cloying and lasts all day.

Not for me

While I do Appreciate what the brand is doing. Thought I’d give this a try as it’s been hyped. I get a photo realistic honey wax from it it’s a clever scent . Just way too sweet/honey . But I don’t like much sweet in my fragrance so take this review with a grain of salt.

Horrible stuff

Sweet and lasting

Bee extract is like a long summer day, it starts off bright and intense with strong notes of hot honey but as it lingers and settles on your senses and skin it’s warm and sweet with notes of incense this settled state lasts for upward of 6 hours. I can’t recommend enough.

Very sweet

Almost like the smell of boiling honey with a spring rain. Just on the verge of too sweet but broken by soft floral

This is the best honey fragrance out there

This fragrance is the most delicious sweet honey and it’s such a nice pleasant scent great for winter and spring, very strong as well. The original bee in the old bottle was too spicy but this new bottle version is a lot more honey focused, 9-10/10
