My Past Selves’ Flowers continues the story of Empty Wishes Well. After the rainstorm, flowers have begun to poke through the upturned earth. Immediately setting the scene for an olfactory contrast, this tension between old soil and verdant new growth creates a striking atmosphere - gothic, eerie, ozonic, and cool - but also tropical, sweet, sticky, and nutty. Flowering buds mingle indiscriminately with wilt and decay, and parched earth is moistened with rainwater: peony vies with tobacco. A slight metallic feeling adds to this realism, like condensation on a waterpipe. Roasted rice tea reinforces the dry yet herbal impression of this fragrance. Here floral ingredients bring the suggestion of dust, dryness, and bitterness forward - draped in incense resins and oud. As is typical of the Toskovat’ style, this fragrance follows a long development, where every impression oscillates with energy so that they tantalise - drawing us in as one note expands into many.
