"Today I remembered destruction. The pain of life often makes me forget the more disgusting pain of having it taken. Fallen buildings on the news, crying babies, burnt flowers. Memories lost, tears drowned, coffees never shared… At least I have iodine on my wounds and crutches left to use, but what about those that don’t? The next war will decide not what is right, but what is left. Hate all governments and love all people. "

Iodine, gunpowder, and rain — violent, conceptual, and purposefully unsettling.

Perfume has the power to make us feel, and Inexcusable Evil is a work of shock and provocation. A scent to be observed, experienced, … worn? An artistic expression.

Editor's Notes

The sensation of shock and provocation is not new to the world of art, or perfumery for that matter. And oftentimes the force of shock is what is required to get the message across. This extrait de memoire is violent - out from the bottle with the piercing charge of iodine: an impersonal smell that creates a sterile mood. It is the instant smell of hospitals and clinics, wound dressing, antiseptic and disinfectants - for many of us, these are unpleasant associations - it is the sheer brutality of fact; the facts of life, the misfortunes of existence, and the fate of our thrownness into the world. A throw of the dice will never abolish chance.

Inexcusable Evil is unafraid of lingering in this state of discomfort. Iodine’s peculiar affinity for the chemical burn and tarnish of gunpowder is emphasised here, robbing the scent of any chance of sweetness or reprieve. Ozonic notes further sap the fragrance of friendlines or sweetness. And - in what can only be called perversion - floral materials are detectable deep within the debris and ash of this fragrance, as if a melancholy bouquet flowers were wrapped in gauze. Commenters talk of Silent Hill, warzones, field hospitals, All Quiet on the Western Front, and Jacob’s Ladder - Inexcusable Evil unsettles us, sparks concern, and will likely repulse us too.

Stomach churning iodine

Stomach churning iodine. Not exactly an everyday perfume. Situationally aesthetic at best. Novelty at worst. An art piece for the olfactory systems

Unsettling

Very unsettling, iodine heavy. clinical smell. It was what i was expecting but still somehow managed to make me recoil. Still, can very much appreciate the artwork, but for me it’s completely unwearable.

Smells like bandaids

I really hate the smell but I can’t give it a zero because I do appreciate the concept and art behind it.
It smells like the hospital and like bandaids and iodine for sure. It smells just like you’re dying or something. Like imagine your bleeding out and just reached the hospital and are about to die this scent would be the last smell.
I knew I wouldn’t like it but I was just so curious! Obviously would never wear this or by the whole bottle but it is definitely an experience to get this. I just love the story behind the toskovat perfumes

Undeniably evocative

Inexcusable Evil was less a perfume to me & more an encounter. I neither loved it nor hated it. It simply existed beside me unwavering, clinical, strangely alive. It sat steadfast on the skin, shifting by degrees so subtly that one moment bled into the next without warning.

The strongest sensory notes for me were cement & iodine. Cold walls. Sterile rooms. Dust hanging in still air. At points, it became so visceral I could almost taste it.

There were moments I sat with it almost curiously, as though learning the language of an unfamiliar person. And then there were moments I needed distance from it entirely, sensory overload creeping in slowly until nausea arrived like a tide.

It is deeply atmospheric. Unsettling. Uncompromising. Not beautiful in the traditional sense, yet undeniably evocative. It does not ask to be liked. It asks to be experienced.

Not so evil

It's got a very sterile opening, like you're in the dentists chair. It reminds me of having gloves and those bite things shoved into your mouth.

But the dry down on my skin is interesting. It's almost petrichor but kind of like... Petrichor you'd see in an industrial area. Wet wood with a rusty nail maybe.

It's not offensive, in fact it's quite pleasant. If you're used to fragrances with less than standard notes though, I imagine it would be not so great.

in the bottle it smells like straight iodine. on skin, I smell gorgeous. I smell like Satan in Paradise Lost. I smell like the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs. I smell like having incredible sex on the smouldering embers of a bushfire. It’s like if Dior sauvage was wearable.

Surprising

I saw this perfume on tiktok and decided I had to try it, I didn't know what to expect and was hoping for the best but expecting the worst. I am so pleasantly surprised at how this dries down on the skin. Beautiful

an art object, not a perfume

this is my second toskovat in a row that hasn't worked, so i'm starting to think the house isn't for me. which is a shame because the concepts are genuinely seductive. but concept isn't chemistry and i keep learning that the hard way.

the brief here is war. iodine, blood, fallen concrete, rain on ash, burning flowers. jipa-slivinschi apparently hates the smell himself and says he doesn't want people to wear it, which is at least honest. it's an art object about destruction, not a perfume, and the distinction matters because i can appreciate what it's doing without actually wanting it on my skin.

on me it opens metallic. properly metallic. it smells like a firearm. i kept sniffing my wrist and thinking, oh, that's bad, and then going in closer and getting pennies and bleach. it reminds me a lot of secretions magnifiques, that same bodily-metallic-disturbing register, saliva and semen and iodine and ozone. from a distance it's kind of okay. up close it is not.

one of my daughters caught a sweet musky thing underneath and said musk sticks, which i think is the burning flowers and copaiba balm doing quiet work under all the gunpowder. another one said it smells like an old antique shop, dusty and metallic, not even incense, just old shop. she's catching the nagarmotha and guaiac wood and concrete accord in the base. both of them were more accurate than me, honestly. i was stuck at the opening.

it's not a scrubber. it's not horrific. it's just confusing and not wearable.

You have to experience it yourself to form an opinion

The first note comes across as metallic- blood & iodine. An underground, dimly lit mental hospital where they experiment on society's incapacitated comes to mind. Next is a masculine note. Not warm masculine, unnerving masculine. It reminded me of a dark eyed, long haired unknown man in a leather jacket, standing on a dark road in the rain at 3am, holding a weapon he just used. Another note was smoky amber. A shack in the middle of a remote snowy location springs to mind, with just a fireplace flickering through the windows & the smell of gunpowder in the air. A really unique, brain-teasing scent. The Xbox game "Outlast" also comes to mind. Definitely not for the faint-hearted.

I am aware it is not supposed to be a wearable fragrance, but this might be the most horrible one I've smelt... it made me so nauseous, and the smell sticks in your nose for a very long time

Decaying Meat and Despair

As someone newly exploring the world of niche perfumery, I felt compelled to experience Inexcusible Evil, particularly given Toskovat’s frequent mention within the niche space. The opening was initially tolerable; an abrasive, industrial accord reminiscent of burning rubber and hot asphalt from a speeding car. However, any intrigue quickly turned to… utter revulsion.

The dry-down became profoundly unsettling. Subsequent impressions revealed an overwhelming profile of decay: metallic blood, iodine, and organic rot dominated the composition. You think you know what this smells like but you do not.

Rather than evoking a sterile medical atmosphere as I’ve seen other comments mention, the scent crossed decisively into something far darker; giving more morgue than hospital. The blood accord was especially potent and persistent, to the point of inducing physical revulsion.

Ultimately, the fragrance proved so disturbing and tenacious that it required vigorous scrubbing with oil to fully remove. While undeniably bold and confrontational, this is a scent that prioritizes shock over wearability, and it will undoubtedly disturb even seasoned niche fragrance enthusiasts… not for me.

This perfume is an artistic experience

Clearly not meant to be a wearable perfume, I purchased this as a talking point to play and discuss how scent can be an experience rather than a practical thing. My friends and I enjoyed sniffing and working out the feelings that arose with each note. Metallic, gunmetal, accents of blood and the smells of what I imagine a bad car accident would omit.
My only note is that I expected to be more repelled by it seemed more palatable than I was expecting. I can actually imagine a certain type of person wearing this.

Terrible but in a really lovely, haunting way. I tried assigning this some kind of ethereal malevolence but honestly it's an extremely organic, tangible evil through and through. Really fascinating. Not pleasant, but glad I bought it.
