I am a perfume with a lively and active writing. I evoke the smell of Irish rain, fresh and soft, the velvety smell of the wind and delicately sweet heather from this land of fire, under the damp moor which captivated my perfumer.

I am a modern chypre, recomposed thanks to patchouli in two ways. One sublimates my floral heart of rose damascena, the other combines with cocoa in the background to reveal its dark and warm notes. At the top, fruit and citrus notes support the impertinent trail of violet leaves.

Like the Queen of Sheba, a mysterious figure who continues to intrigue century after century. Sublime and bewitching, Balkiss - the name of this queen in the Arabic language - is elusive and moving.

Editor's Notes

With a hint of rain, Sublime Balkiss is a striking image of walking through a garden after a light mist. Gentle sunlight emerging out from the rainclouds, the relieving sigh of florals mixing with the deep scents of the earth; a small patch of garden crop spotted with bramble, roses, and leaves. An atmospheric chypre, its patchouli fond (a duo of fractionated patchouli and essence) is innervated with a peppery top note, cut with violet leaf for its mix of fire and water - furthered with the serious deep green-purple tartness of blackcurrant. Violet leaf, admits perfumer Celine Ellena, is its main ingredient - a link between the fruity top and chypre base. Its heart is solely violet leaf! Garlanding this, a frame of lily of the valley brings spring to mind, softened with tender lilac, mattified with cocoa powder. Though Sublime Balkiss is rich with florals, there is no questioning its mossy-woody build; it is evocation - a twilight garden - and it does it so well.
