With a diabolical voluptuousness, I am a monument of perfumery. I am Rose Poivree. A spiced floral created by Jean-Claude Ellena, 2000, rediscovered in 2020.

Diabolical but beautiful, like an infernal scene depicted by a master painter - you can’t help but look! Rose is not of the usual sort here, with petals ignited as its red colour turns even more brilliant, approaching a state of decay as these petals wither and dessicate, curling like infernal tendrils. Chthonic but human, this is Jean-Claude Ellena’s excellence, who seasons a duo of Damask rose and Centifolia rose with peppery spices and animalic civet. What Ellena achieves is depth without heaviness, developing the many facets of rosiness. Botanical, passionate, alchemical: its slides from fresh, dew-like, and even fruity, to a rich earthy paste, tickled with scintillating spice powder. The friendliest hellfire, Rose Poivree behaves multiply: like an unctuous fluid, an elixir-like concentrate, a musky-animalic balm, back to being a potion that evokes memories of warm bodies and roses drying upside-down in spice cupboards.
