Orlo is the second creation of Versi Studio, which is an envisioned olfactive trilogy from Mendittorosa exploring the relationship between poetry and perfumery. The second in this trilogy, Orlo, is inspired by the poem Edge (1965) written by one of the most significant female poets of the 20th century, Sylvia Plath.

In respect for all who fight demons and go to the Edge. For those whose garden grows numb. Who needs more land to expand and to let the light inside. Sylvia Plath was a poet of immensity. Her opus was superhuman. Her special work, erected as if it stood between her insecure emotional condition and the edge of the abyss. The art was not to fall.

There is a striking intensity to Orlo - very nearly brutal, at risk of falling apart, held together by an unknown force. Balancing freshness and spiciness, it arrives like a wave from a great distance. An abundance of natural materials showcases their innate contrasts and complexities. A terrific grade of Italian bergamot flashes and glows, its bitter zestiness works alongside sweet juiciness, its spiciness picked up by a sizzling cumin note that floats like a mirage. One can pass through its heated presence, soon reaching a garden-like assortment of green flower stems, dew drops, crunchy herbs, and petals that exhale their sweet sultry fragrance. Warm orange blossom is contrasted by a metallic and faintly peach-scented rose, with a lavender-like, coumarin warm interlude.

At first you’d be tempted to call this pretty, but there is a sinister quality lurking through Orlo, contrasted by a woody complex of papyrus, patchouli, cedar, and cashmeran. Earth, smoke, minerality, and solidity. Orlo has a complex, troubled soul. It does not conceal itself - rather - it reveals itself in its own time, in jitters of acceleration and deceleration. A deeply human (all too human) fragrance.
