Imaginary Authors Yesterday Haze Eau de Parfum

Regular price $24900 NZD
Size

Set in California’s tranquil and dusty San Joaquin Valley, Yesterday Haze tells the story of a farmer’s wife who, after maintaining a decades-long affair with a crop duster pilot, decides to come clean to her husband (who also happens to be her lover’s employer). The juicy and subtly sinister story unfolds like a dream, delicately shifting perceptions like the colours of a dimming dusk. It is both heartwarming and heartbreaking, a feat difficult to pull off with such ease.

A creamy, woody fig with sweetness, vanilla, nuts and a dusty iris edge — great for late summer and early autumn.

Occasion:
The seductive, dreamlike quality of this scent works like a magnet. Use it liberally during the day and, as it lingers into the night, watch as those around you are lured into your sphere. May conjure memories of running free as a child without a care in the world, exploring arid gardens and orchards, watching a hazy sunset from some great vista.

Editor's Notes

Fig is transformed into a cocktail in Yesterday Haze, a perfectly balanced combination that celebrates the dynamism of the fruity ingredient and its ability to operate across a number of contexts. Its fleshy pulp is intensified with the soft lullaby of slightly tangy cream, emphasising impressions of milk and sap. While tree bark, a raspy material, relates to the smell of sweet sassafras twigs, warm cinnamon quills, spicy cinchona bark, or even cedar - returning the fruit to its tree, and then the earth with iris. To round out this cocktail, a dash of walnut bitters adds a pronounced nuttiness that cuts through the creaminess. This is served straight up, and is garnished with a smoked fig leaf and a grating of warm tonka bean.

Yesterday Haze explores all the possibilities of the fig note, an atmosphere of woody, creamy green. One is definitely prompted to imagine the scene of a crop duster, coating a parched earth blanketed in low orange sunlight, shaking the leaves, and stirring up the dust.
