Just beyond the city of Portland in the Pacific Northwest, there’s a place where people just don’t go. The forest is too deep. The hills are too steep. Overgrown and impassable, these woods have remained hidden for generations from the world outside. Prue McKeel, however, desperately needs to get inside. Her baby brother Mac has been snatched up by a murder of beady-eyed crows and carried away into the darkest depths of the forest, and she has to save him.

But what started out as a rescue mission becomes something much more.

The sweet, textured smell of woody essences - together, an olfactory joinery achieving a sensation of vastness; a wind passing through this arboreal expanse. It is at once dry, spicy, and fresh green - it is worked to a point of smoothness, though a raspiness remains to keep our attention.

Impassable Wilderness has been crafted from the perfect viewing distance - the scene it creates allows a view from the earth, frizzy with tussles of oakmoss and lichen, freshly rained on, and at once, eyes that trace up mighty trunks and leafy canopies, switching from these in the foreground to a misty vanishing point. A cinematic perfume, rendered wonderfully.
