Carnation in perfumery seemingly belongs to the old world of classical greats; and rarely is it seen front and centre. Always a trace, or a line among many, it is an essential floraliser - adding spiciness and warmth to compositions. Philtre is a carnation showcase, using incredible (and very rare) carnation absolute from LMR that so few perfumers can boast about.

Indeed, a precondition for liking Philtre is that one enjoys carnation flower, though one might find initiatory enjoyment from this fragrance. In one respect, Philtre smells like beautiful flowers - like the heady smell of a room with a vase holding a mixed bouquet. Carnation, with its strong impressions of clove and black pepper, has always lent itself to amber perfumes (specifically belonging to the ‘mellis’ subgenre) - as it so happily melds with sweet-balsmic notes, resins, with a smoky, floral-honey touch. Philtre is recollection; a passionate floral.
