In the 1950s, on the hallowed stage of La Scala in Milan, Maria Callas, the celebrated 'Divina', made her triumphant entrance to perform the famed “mad scene” aria from Gaetano Donizetti’s masterpiece Lucia di Lammermoor.

The stage lay in near darkness, the air heavy and almost sacred. In this charged stillness she appeared - striking, statuesque, her great eyes set within a face of sculpted cheekbones - at once commanding in public and fragile in private. The aria marks a suspended moment after madness: Lucia, a bride in love with another man and manipulated by those around her, descends into delirium and kills her groom, her ecstasy in insanity revealing love in its most violent and uncontainable form, ravaging everything in its path. In Callas’s interpretation, that paradox of rapture and ruin became transcendent, transforming the historic theatre into an immersive, almost hypnotic sensory experience, where music, drama, and atmosphere dissolved into one entrancing whole.

This is an incense fragrance that dramatically moves through the body of this fragrance. Narcotic and maddening, it is sweetened yet umbrous. Peach entices, bursting with its sweet flesh and powdery skin, warmed with sharp prickles of clove and given counterpoint with green muguet. A base of balsams, resins, vetiver, and labdanum concludes.
