October 1996, New York City. In the neon-soaked nights of downtown New York, a young perfumer roams the city after dark, chasing inspiration. The humid air carries hints of spilled booze, cigarette smoke, and the sweat of bodies moving in underground clubs. He meets a man who drifts through the scene like a ghost, his scent a mix of neoprene, leather boots, and something undefinable. Drawn into the city’s after-hours underbelly - where lust and abandon blend into an intoxicating mix - he absorbs the essence of the night. But as he does, he realizes he’s not just capturing that prevalent, sexual scent - he’s losing himself in it. Developed with Rodrigo Flores Roux.

Editor's Notes

Dark but friendly, with a deliberate degree of artifice. Nocturnality has grip and growl, as raw hide fuses with the right amount of shiny neoprene and latex. Leather is but the beginning of this total outfit - more authentic than costume - spice, smoky char from hydrocarboresin and styrax, and animalics dress this leatheriness from top to bottom. Fiery Malabar black pepper seasons tender, fleshy rose, which turns into lacquer, carnal as it mingles with night-blooming flowers. There’s no mistaking the animal imprint of Nocturnality, either: civet, castoreum, and hyraceum all raise the saturation - matte black turns glossy, leather enlivens to become flesh. The synthetic materials are abundant yet deftly handled - and that’s the point. They do not slacken, but rather, make firm and lend tight grip – enhancing the whole.
A worthy tribute to proud subcultures, a follow up to Tom of Finland (Clean Suede), if you will, and a deeply interesting take on leather.
