In the base, a seamless harmony of amber and patchouli grounds these rich excesses and acts as an anchor to the more tempestuous elements, lending the whole an air of gravitas, authority and profundity.

Calvados - French apple brandy - is naturally a perfumed treat. Spicy and sweet, warm with its alcoholic fire, Overture 41 sets off with a punchy blast of this treasure. Its apple note, between crisp floral freshness and spicy stewed warmth, happily embraces a soft amber construction. Legendary perfumer Annick Mennardo gives this contrast her full attention. A dominant rose centifolia accord, faintly leafy with geranium, imparts a tender softness with a brightness that floats above the surface of Overture 41. While a resinous, balsamic, woody decadence works through the body of the fragrance. A melt of benzoin, labdanum, and vanilla spreads throughout the fragrance, softened with musk and a unique sandalwood extraction known as Sandalwood Dreches, recovered from leftover sandalwood chips and dregs that remain after the primary distillation. A second distillation produces a by-absolute, with pronounced gourmand facets redolent of scorched, caramelised sugar. It brilliantly reinforces the sophisticated sweetness of the calvados note.
