Shapton Glass Stone: HR 500 Grit

$6700 $8800

Shapton Glass Stones are known for their exceptional quality, durability and ease of use. Unlike other waterstones, Shapton Glass Stones do not need to be soaked in water before use - simply wet the surface and begin honing your blade.Shapton sharpening stones are made with finely graded ceramic cutting media that requires less flattening and lasts 4-5 times longer than most water stones. The abrasives in these glass stones are also extremely uniform, meaning the abrasive encountered with the first pass of a blade will be the same as the 5000th pass. The #500 grit stone has a particle size of 29.4 microns and isn't required for routine sharpening - it's intended for setting a bevel or fixing a small chip in the blade of a straight razor. We recommend using the Shapton Stone Holder to hold the stone in place when in use.

Perfect for Quality Knives

After watching many YouTube videos and using Bob Kramer Knife Sharpening Videos as the holy grail of information (Closely followed by Mr Burrfection). I am starting the transition from the cheap whetstones to these which I understand to be the pinnacle of sharpening products.
Very happy with the experience so far, next purchase will be a 1000grit then 5000grit. Once I've mastered these I'll look at the polishing ones maybe 16 or 20K stone. Soon I hope to be doing the "Push Cut" regularly- I own the Kramer Carbon Chef 8"and 6" and small Kramer paring knife plus half a dozen Kai Shun Premiers. These Shapton Glass Stones really are the quality stones you do need when you have played around with the cheaper sets till you realise you need to graduate to the good ones.

Delivered on time if not a little earlier, and it is just as the guys on YouTube say, Burrfection and Bob Kramer it is a great starting stone for out of condition blunt knives, now to start buying the others, 1000, then a 5 or 8,000 stone

better than I even thought it would be

i had pretty high expectations of this stone as they are really expensive stones for what little stone you get and my 16k version is awesome on my straight razors. These guys are about the best price i found too, plus they had afterpay so it was all over red rover ;-) That said, it has delivered in spades!
its fast, feels good, and leaves a really clean finish for quite a coarse stone.
Would I recommend this? hell yeah!

A very happy customer

I was so impressed with the 16,000 Shapton I got here a month ago, I lashed out and bought the 500 and 2000 in that series. I put my steel edge across both stones, saw no light. I hatched them with a pencil and hit them with a diamond plate anyway, taking only enough to eliminate the pencil. A waste of time, they were flat enough though this proved it. I've since done a number of planes, chisels and knives and find I needed virtually no pressure to get the edge clean and consistent. Finish with the 16K and got a nice mirror.

Would I reccomend these? They are pricey but one gets what one pays for. I tend to go for quality over price and I am more than happy with the results.
Furthermore, the price in Australia is pretty much the best I could find and the service . . . once more, top notch.
