An Alum block is a must have for wet shaving. However they are very prone to breaking apart if accidentally dropped, even from a slight height (hands above sink). I am yet to completely use one of the GFT blocks without dropping it 10-20cm above a bench top only to have it break into several pieces. Handle with care.

Although the alum block is primarily used as an aftershave and to help stop cuts, it has a could of other uses.

If like me, you sometimes struggle for grip, wipe your wet fingers across the alum block. This causes the finger to wrinkle up, providing extra grip.

Another use is gauging how good or bad the shave was. If you have a bad shave, using the alum block will burn. A lot. It will also clean up any nicks you have.

Added tip: Put your alum block in your freezer before use. Pull it out after your shave, and rub it over your chin when you have rinsed your face with cold water. It will feel amazing.

After reading the reviews I decided to try this out in my regular shaving routine.

Unfortunately on my second use I have found that I have some in-grown hair and a bit of a break out.

I stored it in my stone shaving bowl and noticed a strong residue. A possibility is that I may be alergic to the aluminium in the mineral block.

So I will try again now my skin has healed with a light wash to remove any residue and see if that reduces the irritation on my skin.

love to recommend it but at this stage I would say depends on your skin type.
