DOVO Solingen Straight Razor: Tortoiseshell Special 5/8"

Bye bye plastic! Face still intact after a first straight razor shave from the self proclaimed masters in steel, DOVO SOLINGEN.

The recent Gillette propaganda got me thinking about the products we buy, the disposable plastic that poisons the planet and then, of course, how they try to exploit and emasculate Western men with their corporate power.

Investing in something made for life by a company who've been making the same dependable products for over a century is not only economical but admirable from a production perspective. Having survived the first time, I look forward to many more shaves with this outstanding example of German quality and craftsmanship to cater for a tradition and skill otherwise lost to consumerism and big business.

I was thinking of starting wet shaving and was looking at some plain models, when my wife bought this one for me and I'm glad she did. The faux tortoiseshell pattern adds a level of class, and I could admire the letter detail across the side of the blade all day. It came shave ready (though I had an expert look at it just in case) and I've been using it for a year now without a rehoning. It's incredibly controllable as well; despite it going effortlessly through hair I have yet to draw blood with it. Strongly recommend it

This is my first straight razor, and I'm glad to say I'm thrilled with it. I'm still working on my technique, but I'm glad Ive made the switch - and so is my neck!
